Wright's Fallingwater, built in the late s as a holiday home for the wealthy Kaufmann family, is a true classic of organic architecture. Nowadays, the house is rightly regarded as a classic of modernist architecture - but when the Kaufmann's first looked at Wright's plans for their new summerhouse, they were actually disappointed.   Abstract art is the most obvious example of the use of shape, but the element of shape, organic and geometric alike, is central to much if not most artwork. What Creates a Shape? At its most basic, a shape is created when a line is enclosed: a line forms the boundary, and the shape is the form circumscribed by that boundary.

Organic shapes are recognizable as a trademark in the work of Henri Matisse. Check out these easy paper collages that focus on organic forms that were inspired by Matisse! Print out and play with some geometric shapes with this free printable tangram puzzle! Using the element of shape printable to teach types of shapes in art. The Definition of Form. Form - an element of art, means objects that have three dimensions. I like to think of form as a 3-D shape. Geometric forms have specific names associated with them and are typically man-made. Organic forms do not have specific names associated with them and are often associated with naturally occurring forms.   Organic Trade Association's North American Resource Directory; pages, spiral bound. First published inArt Forms in Nature is a glorification of function and form, a demonstration of organic symmetry that has nothing--and everything--to do with nature as it actually exists. Each plate exhibits organisms carefully arranged and exquisitely detailed, "a symbiosis between decorative sketches and descriptive observations of nature," as Olaf Breidbach states in his /5().

Derived from a rare German art book, published in Dresden at the turn of the twentieth century, the stylized images embody the authentic Art Nouveau style. This volume includes a bonus CD-ROM that features all illustrations, offering professional and amateur designers a rich trove of distinctive royalty-free illustrations.

Organic form, the structure of a work that has grown naturally from the author’s subject and materials as opposed to that of a work shaped by and conforming to artificial rules.

The concept was developed by Samuel Taylor Coleridge to counter the arguments of those who claimed that the works of William Shakespeare were formless. An "organic" or "natural" form is loose and undefined.

Often things found in nature are organic forms, like clouds. Clouds have no set form, and no geometric lines or angles. "Geometric" or "inorganic" forms have hard, defined lines and angles, and don't vary too much. adshelp[at] The ADS is operated by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory under NASA Cooperative Agreement NNX16AC86A.

Organic patterns are the opposite of geometric patterns – think “growing” when you think of an organic pattern. Instead of straight lines, organic patterns utilize curves, scrolls, vines, leaves, flowers and other curvilinear features.

Fabrics like these from Greenhouse Design give you a good picture of what makes up an organic pattern.Form is also the primary determinant of a formal or informal garden. Geometric forms with straight edges are typical of formal gardens that are based on an established style, such as contemporary or Italian gardens.

An informal garden has more naturalistic, organic forms that .In romantic literature, a work has organic form if the structure has originated from the materials and subjects used by the author.

Using the organic metaphor, the structure is seen to grow as a plant. It stands in contrast to a mechanical form, a work which has been produced in .
